My First Exhibition

Hey there guys, wowzas has it been a been a busy month, as you can tell since I havent updated my blog in a while! Sorry about that.

Anyways the main reason for this post was to talk about the importance of a couple of things that I never really thought about until recently and figured I would share it with you all.

So here goes:

Print Your Work : Im a geek, a big time geek, if its not about photography its about some other form of digital media, technology, favorite website, some kick ass clip I found on Vimeo or YouTube or something else that affiliated with the geek culture. With me being such a big geek Ive never really had a problem with viewing both my own work or other artists work right here on my screen, printing was never really and option in my head and it just never really appealed to me.

Show Your Work : You have to have to have to show your work, and Im not talking to Mum and Dad, or Grandma and Grandpa or your neighbor or your best friend, Im talking about putting it out there for everyone to see, this can be on specific website suck as Flickr, Deviantart, and other photo specific sites. Yes this is scary and its really really hard when you put it out there in an open forum and you either get no comments at all, or the only ones you do get are "Meh I coulda done better" or "Damn dude shes hot, how did you get her to model for you?!".

Dont ever think that negative criticism is a bad thing, its only ever a bad thing when people take a direct stab at either your subject or you personally. But negative criticism is indeed a good thing, it can fuel the creative fire, it can motivate you to push yourself harder, test your limits, test your boundaries, try something different.

If everyone told you that your work was awesome and just left it that, you wouldnt evolve and either would your work either, or your love.

Showing your work at exhibitions is also a very good thing too....

The reason why I think these two things are now so damn important, is because Ive recently just experienced them both,

As far as the printing thing goes, there really is nothing like having a physical bigger than screen size artwork that you have slaved and worked over and holding the finished product in your hands is amazing compared to just hitting the save button and then just filing it into a folder on your computer.

And displaying your art is also an amazing experience and a rush, to see it there on a wall and to watch people walking past and stopping and looking and moving on, just amazing.

So here are some photos from my very first ever exhibition (not a solo one I know but still, it was my first) Im on the right and my good friend and the subject in the photo Sammo is on the left, the piece I submitted and got hung is the one up the top in the middle, black and white print in the white frame

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PRINT AND SHARE YOUR WORK!
